![]() Side Stand Pose ![]() Classic Mandel Stand French editors created many classical themes aimed directly towards the artist. One of those themes was the classical standing pose. Of course, artists were not the true marketing aim for the publishers of these illegal, however, artists did benefit from the production of nude images.
Among the most popular marketing techniques, was advertising to artists through magazines. The ad above appeared in a 1923 issue of "La Beaute". It touts the ease and convenience of using a camera image, offering 75 nude poses, sepia or hand-colored, in the format of postcards, which could be ordered through the mail. The images used in these ad campaigns were retouched but the ad assures buyers the images sent to the home were "complete". The second most popular theme, after the seated pose, was the classically standing nude. The images they produced not only flattered the models, but also reflected a new talent for the camera. While most of these photographers will always remain anonymous, the works they created will be admired for years to come. These images and more are available in full-size as a download or on CD.
