Something About the Nude Poses by Lydia

Lydia appears to have been either a single photographer or a small studio with only a couple of photographers. The company produced risqué advertisements, as well as, a limited number of nudes. No evidence has been uncovered supporting the idea Lydia produced any other than images in these two categories.

The Lydia studio purchased a majority of their images. Many of these can be traced to Jean Agelou, JA. This comes as no surprise since JA was known to have sold many of his images to smaller studios. He was the largest producer of nude images at the turn of the century.

Purchased images aside, Lydia does appear to have photographed some of their own images. There is a definite sense of mystery in the Lydia style that is incomparable to any other producer of postcards. The models the company employed have a distinct look that is very different from models employed by other studios. These women also do not appear under any other mark, making them that much more unique. Instead of fancy interior scenes and props, the women are draped in sheer veils wearing very provocative looks. At the same time, the women and poses seem quite cozy being casually draped across a sofa and seemingly comfortable with the fact they were wearing very little if anything at all.

Lydia only remained in business for a short period of time, from the late teens to the early 1920's. The amount of postcards bearing this signature mark is small, especially in comparison to other studios of the same time period. The number of models Lydia employed was even smaller.

In the short period of time they existed, Lydia left the world an extraordinary and unusual group of images that are still very much in demand. The images that follow are some of Lydia's exclusive models and images. We think you will agree, there was just "something" special about Lydia.
