| Over the past seven years, we have watched as prices for the so-called "Dirty French Nude Postcards" continue their steady upward climb. These are the same type cards collectors paid $10 for just a few short years ago. There is no rhyme or reason for the prices these cards fetch other than just the desire to add to their collections.
In 2000, a card of Wyatt Earp's "supposed" second wife sold for a staggering $1000.00 and according to historians, it can not even be authenicated as being his wife. So what is going on here? Is this a reflection of actual value or a case of "collector fever"? We wish we knew the answer. Veteran dealers will tell you real value is what someone will pay for an item. A true statement but it doesn't answer the question. Most likely these escalating prices result from the rules of supply and demand. There is no doubt there are many new collectors looking for cards adding to demand. And of course there is the favorite line "they don't make these anymore". Could it be as simple as that?
