The Spanish born painter, Falero, was a talented and precocious child. His wealthy parents sent him to Richmond college in England to learn the English language and also watercolor painting. He was only 9 years old when he left England to continue his studies in Paris. After schooling, he returned to Spain to join the Spanish navy, following the wishes of his parents. His service was short because at the age of sixteen, to their bitter disappointment, he left the service, to he study art, chemistry ,and mechanical engineering. However, the experiments he had to conduct during some of his studies turned out to be so dangerous he decided to dedicate himself solely to art. He was known as a portrait artist, settling in London in the early 1880's but His favorite subjects were female nudes in mythological and fantasy settings, Orientalist overtones. He also enjoyed painting astronomy and magical themes. Luis Falero's career was short by his death in 1896 at the age of forty-five in London. Many art postcards were made of Falero's paintings. Most were anonymous naming the museum but not the artist. The postcards that have Falero's name give little to no information about the artist or the painting. This was common practive for postcards made during this time period.
