![]() Classically Seated ![]() Dramatic Seated Recline Julian Mandel, the early twentieth century art photographer, became known for his exceptional classical studies of the female form. His photographs and other images are artfully composed, with exquisite soft use of lighting.
Mandel published through several known Paris-based studios during the 1915-1932 period, publishing an extensive amount of work through the Alfred Noyer Studios of Paris. Many reprints of his work can be found under a German company by the name of of Neue Photographische, (NP). Although Mandel's works were considered illegal, he considered himself an artist, and in a bold move for the time, signed his name to the fronts of his work. Julian Mandel devoted his life to promoting photography as an art. He was a member of and participated in the German avant-garde "new age outdoor" or "plein air" movement, producing a vast amount of outdoor nudes during his life. He also traveled extensively to other continents, finally settling in Brazil where he married and raised his family. Although he has been often overlooked, Julian Mandel was one of the great photographers of the early twentieth century. These images and more are available in full-size as a download or on CD.
